An independent, co-educational, university preparatory, day (grades Pre-Kindergarten-12, and Post-Graduate) and boarding (grades 7-12) school, Andrews Osborne Academy (AOA) offers a wide variety of academic, social, and athletic opportunities. The beautiful 300 acre campus located in Willoughby, Ohio is just twenty miles east of Cleveland and forty minutes from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. That places us just forty minutes from anywhere in the world!
With a total school enrollment of 350, students enjoy a student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1. Not surprisingly, 100% of AOA graduates are accepted to excellent colleges and universities each year. Some choose to remain in Ohio, while others move on to institutions such as The Pennsylvania State University, Syracuse University, Pace University, The Ohio State University, and Loyola University Chicago.
The AOA curriculum is geared for all student levels and includes honors, Advanced Placement and Independent Study courses. All seniors are involved in the Senior Project Program which exposes the students to a variety of career and community experiences during the last few weeks of their senior year. The International Language program serves our international students with offered classes in both the intermediate and advanced levels of ESL.
The faculty members at AOA, 75% of who hold advanced degrees, understand how students learn and achieve, and how important it is to design an environment not merely incorporating but actually constructed around distinct learning styles. Unique class offerings include Robotics and Engineering, Biotechnology, and Entrepreneurship. AOA students also have access to art classes, music lessons, and theater productions at the Willoughby Fine Arts Association, located right on the AOA campus. Students are able to easily enhance their personal or professional portfolio with the very best instruction.
Students attend AOA from countries as far away as:
These students might have a roommate from, California, Florida, New York or even Cleveland. Just imagine the global friendships that are created as students from down the street, across the country and around the world live, laugh and learn from one another.
Over the weekend, students at AOA might take in a movie, shop at a local mall, attend a concert, or just spend time with their friends in the dorm. There are six dormitories, each with a living room and kitchen. Often the refrigerator is stocked by the students with their own selection of “comfort food”.
Boarding students at AOA enjoy time with their friends and have easy access to after school athletic events and club activities. Students also have plenty of time for studying and attend a mandatory study session Sunday thru Thursday. Each dormitory also has a computer, in-room internet access, a television, and laundry facilities. Students may bring their own cell phones and computers. Students from distant states or countries can be assigned host families in the area with whom they can reside during open weekends or school vacations.
The physical education program is designed to promote physical vitality, sound health, teamwork skills, and school spirit. The School fields interscholastic teams in basketball, E-sports, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, cross country, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and volleyball. Our athletic wing includes a state-of-the-art field house, aerobics, fitness, and weight rooms. We have five new tennis courts and an 80,000 square foot indoor athletic facilty for year-round sports training.
Navigating through the college search process is a personal journey that the school and faculty support from the very day that a student enrolls into the Andrews Osborne Academy program. Through each and every step along the way, a student is prepared to make college decisions as a result of their unique academic and extra-curricular experiences in and out of the classroom at AOA.
Our approach to college counseling is to guide students in the college search, the application, and the selection process. At AOA, we have a 4-year college counseling advisory curriculum. By starting the college process at the beginning of high school, it is our belief that our students will be better prepared to make well informed and thought-out choices regarding their college fit and major. By the spring of their junior year, when the formal college search process begins, our students will start this phase of their life feeling confident and well informed.
