Founded in 1883, Chaffey College is one of the first and finest colleges to be established in California. Chaffey is a two-year public community college and is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. We have been serving International Students since 1954. With pride in its history and an eye to the future, Chaffey College provides outstanding educational experiences to more than 20,000 students representing the diverse communities of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The college is located just ten miles north of the Ontario International Airport and about an hour’s drive from beautiful California beaches and mountains and the cities of Los Angeles, Anaheim and Palm Springs.

Educational Programs

Chaffey College students enjoy a personalized educational experience including excellent faculty, average class sizes of 35-40 students, extensive academic support services and a variety of extracurricular activities. Students can choose from more than 100 academic and occupational programs. They may earn an associate degree or occupational certificate or complete the first two years of a baccalaureate degree and then transfer to a California State University, the University of California or an independent/private college or university.

International Student Center

The staff in the International Student Center is pleased to welcome new international students and provide ongoing service to address their unique needs. We strive on procuring students obtain the necessary tools to explore the world through education, as well as accessing resources and support needed to thrive at Chaffey College. We are  available to guide students through this journey and help make our campus a home away from home.

Existing services include application processing, orientation, immigration information, academic guidance, career planning, campus employment and housing referrals. Social and cultural activities are planned throughout the year to provide opportunities for international students to make friends, celebrate special events and learn about American culture.

Admissions Information

Chaffey’s academic calendar includes a fall semester, spring semester and summer session. International students are encouraged to apply well in advance of the desired entry date to allow sufficient time for application processing and travel arrangements. Upon receipt of all documents, students will be notified of their acceptance and an I-20 will be issued.  Check our website at www.chaffey.edu/international to check deadlines, admission requirements, and other useful information. 

Admission Requirements:

  • High School Transcripts:  Official transcripts from all secondary schools attended. Non-English transcripts must be translated and submitted with the original language.
  • Proof of English Proficiency: Official test results or evidence of English proficiency
  • TOEFL iBT: 60 (institution code: 4046) or IELTS: 5.0 , or Duolingo English Test: 50

  • Copy of Passport
  • Financial Statement: Bank statement (dated within the past 6 months) verifying at least $24,700 USD to fund tuition, fees, and living expenses for 1 year. If being sponsored by an organization, submit sponsorship letter guaranteeing funds.
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Test and Health Insurance: Submit TB test result (dated within the past 6 months) or get tested at Chaffey Student Health Services. Health insurance must be purchased at Chaffey College prior to beginning of the semester.
  • Non-refundable $40 USD Application/Activity Fee. Pay the fee online at MyChaffey student portal after admission. Instructions will be emailed to student.

Campus Life

International students are invited and encouraged to participate in campus-wide activities including student government, a variety of student clubs and organizations and a comprehensive sports program for men and women. In addition, students have the opportunity to develop their unique talents and leadership skills through the Honor’s Program, Phi Theta Kappa, the College Book Program, community services projects and service on campus committees.

Housing

We offer a number of resources to help you secure housing. As we are a 2-year community college, we do not have on-campus dormitories or residence halls. Please utilize the helpful list below as you begin your search.

 Option 1: Homestay

It’s a great way to immerse yourself in US culture by becoming part of an American family. Students live inside the hosts’ home in a private bedroom and meals can be provided. For students under age 18, homestay is the recommended choice.

 Option 2: Apartments & Rooms for Rent

Rancho Cucamonga is well known for its planned living communities, and there are many wonderful apartments in the area. Please note each apartment community will have different rental requirements. All will require a bank statement with significant funds and additional steps for international student. Also, neighborhood homeowners with extra bedrooms frequently rent out rooms to our students.

Furniture Rental

Since most apartments in the US are not furnished, we have partnered with CORT to provide furniture rental packages for students living off-campus.

Bus Service

Omnitrans is the public bus service serving the area surrounding Chaffey College. The small transportation fee all students pay allows students to get unlimited rides on any routes using their student ID.

The college has its own Transit Center and the following bus routes come directly into the college: Routes 67, 80, 81, and 85.

When looking for housing, it’s a good idea to check how close the accommodation will be to a bus route serving Chaffey.
