Georgia College (officially known as Georgia College & State University) is the official public liberal arts university of the State of Georgia.

  • The term “liberal arts” is derived from the Latin words for “generous/bountiful” and “skills/practices.”

Because all knowledge is inter-connected, a liberal arts education aims at providing students with not only a broad-based education, but an education that is also personalized and “hands-on.”

This approach enables students to:

  • Find and follow their interests and passions,
  • Become highly-skilled in their majors, and
  • Develop analytical, problem-solving and communications skills, as well as
  • The creativity and nimbleness to lead, to thrive and to excel – no matter what the future brings.

Located in the quiet, beautiful and historic city of Milledgeville, one of the hallmarks of Georgia College is the intentionally small size of its classes, and the caring and personal interaction between faculty and students.

“The first day that I walked onto campus and into the International Education Center, I knew that I was part of something important.  I always receive great advice from faculty and staff, and I am thankful for the help I get from my ‘family.’  When I leave next year, I know my Georgia College education and student job I’ve had on campus will help me get the job I’ve always wanted.”

– Karen Ramirez, Colombia, Business major

Georgia College has a student body of 7,000 students, including nearly 100 international students from 26 different countries.

  • Only thirty universities world-wide were invited to participate.
  • Georgia College was the first U.S. university to be invited and one of only three U.S. schools chosen to participate.
  • A very short version of Georgia College’s feature – entitled “Citizens of the World” – may be viewed further below.

Affordable Tuition, Plus Scholarships and Assistantships

Listed for 13 years in a row as one of America’’s “Best Value” public colleges and universities by The Princeton Review, Georgia College offers affordable tuition and numerous opportunities for financial support.  Many of our undergraduate international students receive partial scholarships, and a number of our graduate international students are awarded graduate assistantships.

Ideal Location

Georgia College is located in the historic district of the town of Milledgeville, a safe and friendly town conveniently situated in the center of the state of Georgia in the southeastern region of America.  Only two hours from Atlanta and two and a half hours from beautiful Savannah – and the Atlantic Ocean – Georgia College is within easy driving distance of all the major cities in the state.

  • Flights from nearby Atlanta connect to destinations throughout America and the world.

Because Milledgeville was the capital of Georgia until the US civil war, the town has many beautiful homes and buildings from the 1800’s.  The Georgia College campus, therefore, is also very rich in historic beauty.  Downtown Milledgeville, next to the campus, is the home to numerous shops and boutiques, plus a diverse selection of restaurants and bistros featuring American, Asian and European cuisine that are popular with students.  Additionally, Lake Sinclair – a large lake lined with trees and that offers outstanding recreational opportunities – is located very close to the campus.

  • Because of its southern location, the region has a pleasant climate all year round, even in winter.

Supportive and Professionally-Staffed International Office

The International Education Center assists international students with application and immigration matters, adjusting to life at Georgia College and America, and provides personalized service and attention all year long.  There are also extensive orientation sessions as well as programs and activities designed to connect students with our welcoming local community.

University Facilities and Student Life

Georgia College offers many state-of-the-art facilities, including a new library with cyber café, suite-style residence halls, and an exercise complex and sports center.

  • Recognized as one of the Top 50 wireless college campuses in the U.S., the university is noted for its modern technological resources.

There are over 100 clubs and organizations that students can join, in addition to intercollegiate sports teams such as baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball and tennis.

One of the largest and most active student clubs on the entire Georgia College campus is the International Club – composed of both international and American students – that offers members fun activities, plus very affordable weekend trips to nearby cities, events, and cultural sites.  The club also organizes the very popular annual International Fest (Fall) and International Dinner (Spring) celebrations. The International Club also supports new international students by matching them with a campus “buddy” before arriving at Georgia College.

Housing and Meal Service

Georgia College offers a number of choices for on-campus living, from the traditional residence hall to apartment-style living.  All university residence halls and apartments are newly-built and come furnished with full amenities, including high-speed Internet and cable television access, laundry facilities and kitchens.

For those who prefer to live off-campus, apartment complexes and houses are available within walking or shuttle bus distance of Georgia College. All students will enjoy dining at the Maxwell Student Union (“The Max”) that offers a wide variety of choices for all tastes, diets, and preferences.  It is also a great place to join with friends – and to meet new ones!.

  • We recommend submitting your application materials and supporting documents by April 1 for the Fall Semester and by September 1 for the Spring Semester.
  • Because popular classes fill quickly, we encourage you to apply earlier if possible, especially if you will be an incoming first-year student.
  • We welcome – and encourage – applications from students with disabilities and from students who come from diverse backgrounds.

Georgia College Responds to COVID-19

We understand that applicants have been greatly impacted by recent cancellations of standardized exams such as the SAT, ACT, and TOEFL. Georgia College also accepts the online Duolingo English Test.  We recognize that many final qualifications (IBO, French Baccalaureate, A-levels, etc.) have been modified or canceled, and we will accept adjusted methods of assessment as determined appropriate by the examining body/ministry of education on a case-by-case basis. The University System of Georgia has also temporarily changed its SAT/ACT and English Language Proficiency policy.
