Marymount University is a Catholic school located in Arlington, Virginia, about five miles from Washington. Undergraduates at Marymount can choose from more than 25 areas of study, and master’s students can choose from about 25 programs as well, including those in the health field. Marymount offers a First Year Experience program for students in their first semester. Freshmen enroll in a themed course with other first-year students to learn how to think critically, ask questions and transition from high school to college-level studies.
Outside the classroom, students can get involved in more than 30 clubs, student government or The Banner student newspaper. Many Marymount students like to show their school spirit by cheering with the Blue Crew at athletic events and participating in the Campus Wars, an event in which students living on the north and south sides of campus and commuters compete in games to raise money for charity. Student athletes can play for the more than 10 Marymount Saints athletic teams, which compete in the NCAA Division III Capital Athletic Conference. Marymount students can also find much to do in the nation’s capital nearby.
Marymount University’s online second-degree Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program is specifically for those who wish to transition into nursing. Because of the rigorous coursework, practicing nurses are advised not to apply.
The program has a 16-month duration and inculcates the best nursing values into students for that period.
