Susquehanna University

We opened on Sept. 1, 1858, as The Missionary Institute of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, officially becoming Susquehanna University in 1895.

During the 20th century, we transformed into a four-year university offering a range of bachelor’s degrees for students. In 1903, the school adopted the colors orange and maroon. Throughout the years, we’ve developed a variety of traditions. Learn more below!

Our leaders are committed to providing an innovative education that prepares students for productive, creative and reflective lives of achievement, leadership and service.

With input from the campus community, the university president, the provost, the Board of Trustees and other senior leaders develop our strategic plan, budget and numerous policies.

We offer enriching programs for members of the community and engage with community partners to enhance student learning.

Our programs tap into the talents and expertise of dedicated university faculty, staff, and students and take advantage of our exceptional facilities.
