North Dakota State University is a student-focused, land-grant, research university — an economic engine that educates students, conducts primary research, creates new knowledge and advances technology. The university provides affordable access to an excellent education at a top-ranked research institution that combines teaching and research in a rich learning environment, educating future leaders who will create solutions to national and global challenges that will shape a better world.

With an enrollment of just under 14,000 students, NDSU offers a wide array of majors and activities in an environment where your education comes first.

NDSU’s 18:1 faculty to student ratio means you get to interact with faculty, but classes at NDSU aren’t simply an instructor delivering a lecture. As a student at NDSU, you will find yourself exchanging ideas with classmates, putting theories to the test in high tech laboratories, presenting solutions to business problems in executive boardrooms, and practicing life-saving skills in clinical settings. Faculty are partners in your education.  They bring their professional experiences and research to the classroom and invite you to leave the classroom and engage in research. As a student-focused university, we are here to help you improve and grow. As a research institution, you will have experiences that are only possible at an institution of our size.

Fargo-Moorhead Community

NDSU is located in Fargo, North Dakota, the state’s largest community. Together with its sister city, Moorhead, Minnesota, directly across the Red River, Fargo forms one of the largest metropolitan centers between Minneapolis and Seattle.

Here are just a few of the reasons Fargo-Moorhead is consistently ranked as one of the best places to live:

  • A metropolitan population of nearly 220,000, combining small-town friendliness with the cultural offerings of a large city.
  • An active arts and cultural scene, including a symphony, a civic opera company, art museums, and community theatre.
  • Many places to shop and eat, including numerous restaurants, coffee shops, and a newly refurbished downtown district.
  • A community that’s safe and easy to get around, with free bus service for students both around campus and in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
  • A growing hub for economic development that provides ample job opportunities.
